Celadon Cup and Stand in Copper-red Underglaze

Celadon vessels with designs highlighted with copper-red pigment are not that uncommon, but it is extremely rare to find an entire vessel covered in copper-red pigment. This cup and stand set were painted with copper-red pigment, with the exception of the bottom of the cup, which still shows the greenish color of the underlying clay. The combination of the elegant form, which reflects the aesthetics of the eleventh and twelfth century, and the rich brownish color produce a wonderful contrast and refinement.
