This ornate celadon brush holder, with a lovely openwork lotus scroll design and two sculpted dragon heads, demonstrates astonishing sculptural expertise by combining numerous decorative techniques, including incision, embossing, openwork, and iron-brown underglaze. Based on the meticulous detail of the two dragon heads, each of which features a distinctive mane, frills, fangs, and scales, this item was likely produced for the royal court or aristocracy. These types of brush holders are quite rare among extant items, making this an important artifact. But beyond that, this piece is exceptional in and of itself, as the aesthetic form and glaze color make it a true masterpiece of Goryeo celadon.
