Athena/Minerva

This statue, which is a Roman copy of a Greek original created in 430 BCE, shows Athena with long flowing hair and her helmet raised over her face, emphasizing her status as the goddess of strategic warfare. On her upper torso, which was added to the head at a later date, she wears and aegis, a legendary shield, chest plate, or animal skin, that was worn by Athena. Athena is the patron goddess of Athens, where the Parthenon was built to honor her in the fifth century BCE.
