This ceramic pillow made at the Cizhou kiln in China has an oval shape, with its top lower at the front and higher at the back, and is decorated with a lotus and bird design. The decorative motif was made using the sgraffito technique, which consists in coating the body with white slip and then scraping off the black glaze to create a motif in two contrasting colors. The pillow’s base is not glazed.
