This is a painting of the sunrise as viewed from Munamsan Mountain, and is included in the Album of Paintings of Geumgangsan Mountain compiled in 1711. The name Munam (literally meaning “Gate Rock”) was given to the mountain due to its appearance resembling a gate. The rock was a favorite destination at the time for people wishing to watch the sun rise over the East Sea.
