Pyeongsaengdo, or “The Highlights of an Illustrious Life,” is a part of a genre painting depicting memorable and joyous events in one’s lifetime. These two are the only extant scrolls of the original eight detailing the first birthday party of a child and the arrival ceremony of the Governor of Songdo. This diagonal or zigzag style of composition is commonly seen in the works of Kim Hong-do. The expression of the figures vividly displays his style of brushstroke, and is full of artistic effects.
