This is an ornamental silver knife adorned with a grass and flower design in relief. In 1670 (the 11th year of King Hyeonjong’s reign), the government prohibited Confucian scholars, low-ranking officials, and ordinary people from carrying an ornamental silver knife, supposedly to rein in personal extravagance.
