The Buddhist monk named Bodhidharma became the most common subject of Seon Buddhism paintings. Kim Myeong-guk’s painting of Bodhidharma is regarded as one of the greatest extant masterpieces depicting this monk. This painting also portrays the monk’s spiritual world very well. The painter’s skills can be felt in the rapid brush strokes and succinct expressions.
