This vessel is made of very fine clay fired at high temperature. The surface is dark gray. The jar has a long body and a short neck. The mouth flares outward almost horizontally, and the edge of the lip is rounded. The base and the body show traces of smoothing by cutting after they were joined, and there is a slanted lattice pattern covering the entire surface. This type of indirect pattern is made by pressing and scrubbing the surface of the pottery with a tool. Unlike scrubbing the entire surface, this technique gives the effect of a pattern by scrubbing only in parts. These patterns are found on the body of medium and large size Goguryeo vessels, such as jars, steamers and pots.
