This bluish white porcelain container features three lidded bowls combined with each other. Also referred to by the name yeongcheong (or yingqing in Chinese), literally meaning “shadow blue”, ceramic vessels of the type shown were first made in a Chinese town called Jingdezhen during the early Northern Song Dynasty. It retains the characteristic features of yeongcheong porcelain ware, including a body with a thin wall made with white clay covered with celadon glaze, and incised floral designs that show through the wall.
