This statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva has a smile on its face and wears a jeweled crown carved with “metamorphosed Buddhas”. The pedestal displays a combination of upturned lotus flowers and their downturned counterparts, which originate from Tibetan Buddhism. His right knee is upright, with the right arm resting on it naturally, with the left hand placed on the floor. Sitting positions such as this one are often seen in the paintings of the Water Moon Avalokitesvara dating back to the Goryeo Period.
