Numerous gourd-shaped ewers have been found among the many surviving Goryeo celadon ware. This type of ewer can also be seen in the earthenware of the Tang and Song Dynasties of China. But it shows a creation different from that of the Chinese. The lower part of its body features a reverse inlay with a slightly illustrated but almost lifelike peony design. Reverse inlay consists in creating a green design by filling the background with inlays. Fine incised lines are used to depict the flower and the leaf of a peony blossom. The upper section of the body is inlaid with clouds and cranes, and the circumference of its mouth above it is encircled with thunder and lotus shaped bands. The side of the spout and its lower waist display white dots applied using the paste-on-paste technique. It is grayish green in color, mildly glossy, and unmarred by cracks.
