The Chinese characters written at the top right of this painting explain that the subject of this portrait is Yi Sa-gyeong, a civil official of the late Joseon Period. He wears an official hat, a waist belt, and a black ceremonial robe with a cloud design. A rank badge embroidered with a twin silver pheasant design is attached to the front of his robe, which is that of a grade 3 official.
