This is a rubbing of a celestial chart engraved on stone. The original celestial map from which this rubbing was made was engraved on a stone in 1395 (the 4th year of King Taejo’s reign), but had to be re-engraved in 1687 (the 13th year of King Sukjong’s reign) as the original chart had been defaced. The chart shows the equator, stars and planets which helped identify solar terms. Below is a postscript detailing the background to the chart’s production and a list of the participants.
