A Buddhist gong, also called a geumgo in Korean, was struck to call the monks in a temple to assemble. This particular example is the only extant gong dating back to the Silla Period. The inscription in Chinese characters states that it was made in 865 (the 5th year of King Gyeongmun’s reign).
