The 8-page Album of Genre Paintings by Kim Hong-do consists of eight painting that show how ordinary people made a living during the Joseon Period. Although the album states that the paintings were made by Kim Hong-do (1745-1806 or later), this is hard to believe simply judging from the style. The album tells us that the genre of paintings focusing on the customs of ordinary people, which was initiated by aristocratic painters in the late Joseon Period, was taken up by genre painters, including Kim Hong-do, in the following generation.
