This painting captures a scene in which a group of Confucian scholars are gathered around a long scroll, intently looking at the painting on it. The expressions of their faces reveal that they are serious about the painting. Remarkably, one of the scholars even covers his face with a fan to avoid possible damage by inadvertently spitting upon it. The painting clearly shows that the viewers in it are enthusiastic art lovers, although we don’t know what exactly has captivated them because the scroll is blank.
