In this painting a man with his chest and abdomen bared is drinking water from a bucket at a village well where three women are drawing water. The man’s impudent behavior causes the women to turn their heads away from him. This painting is often cited as a fine example of the tradition in Korean society, influenced by Confucian teaching, that “there should be differences between men and women.”
