The high protuberance on the top of the head, the conch-shaped hair, and the flowing folds of the robe are typical features of the Buddhist statues made in the Unified Silla Period. This gilt-bronze standing Bhaisajyaguru Buddha holds a medicine casket shaped like a small magic bead in its left hand, as was customary with Buddha statues made in Silla during the Three Kingdoms Period. The right hand displays the gesture of the “dispelling of fear mudra”.
