These stupas were built in 1388 (the 14th year of King U’s reign) to honor Bojejonja, an eminent monk of the late Goryeo Period. They were originally situated within the grounds of Yeongjeonsa Temple in Wonju, Gangwon-do, but were moved to Seoul in 1915. Unlike other ordinary stupas, these were built as a pair just like the stone pagodas, reflecting the unique tradition established during the late Goryeo Period.
