This standing Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva is characterized by its soft plasticity, conveyed by the gentle facial expressions; the curved, slender line of the body; and the tightly fitting robe. The figure has a rhythmic sensibility and refinement, thanks to the natural and graceful tribangha stance (bends at the neck, waist, and knee), the crossed bands of ornamental beads, and the form-fitting robe, which drops naturally onto the pedestal. This work may have originated in Baekje territory, as the overall posture and some of the techniques for rendering the details are reminiscent of other Baekje Bodhisattva statues.
