This book contains the essentials of the Great Collection of Neo-Confucianism, which were originally written during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The work of compilation was undertaken by Kim Jeong-guk (1485-1541) in 1538 (the 33rd year of King Jungjong's reign). Seongnidaejeon (Great Collection of Neo-Confucianism, Xingli Daquan in Chinese) was a collection of theories of eminent scholars of the Song and Yuan Dynasties, and was regarded as a must-read book by neo-Confucian scholars. This book provides a glimpse of the status of Neo-Confucianism during the Joseon Dynasty.
