These dishes were used as ritual vessels in a Taoist ritual known as jaecho. This ritual was performed for Sibiryo, or the eleven constellations, which are highly important in Taoist philosophy. The ritual was performed nationally during the Goryeo Dynasty to pay tribute to several constellations, including the Big Dipper.
