The Saddharmapundarika Sutra (The Lotus Sutra) was translated into Chinese by the Indian monk Kumarajiva (344-413), annotated by Monk Jiehuan of the Song Dynasty, and compiled by Monk Yiru of the Ming Dynasty. This version in Korean translation was made by Gangyeongdogam, the Directorate of Buddhist Publications, during the reign of King Sejo (r. 1455-1468) of the Joseon Dynasty. The main text is annotated in Korean, and the Korean translation is marked with a side dot. Also, the pronunciation of the Chinese characters is transcribed in accordance with the style established in the Dongguk Jeongun (Standard Rhymes of the Eastern State). The proofreader’s seal is stamped at the beginning and end of the book.
