This basic scripture of the Cheontae Order of Korean Buddhism explains the lofty intention of the Buddha to manifest himself on the earth. It was translated into Chinese by the Indian monk Kumarajiva (344-413) and annotated by the monk Jiehuan of the Song Dynasty. This print contains an afterword written by Nam Jae (1351-1419) during the early Joseon Period, and was published with financial donations made by many officials, including Jeong Cheon-ik, soldiers and ordinary people. It provides valuable information on Buddhism in the early Joseon Period.
