The Chinese characters written on the bottom left reveal that this portrait was painted in 1923. Two seals are stamped below the Chinese characters, reading “Chae Yong-sin” and “Seokji” which are the name and penname of the artist who painted this portrait. This is a full-length chair portrait with a man wearing a jeongjagwan (a headdress made of horsehair) and a blue overcoat sitting on a chair. The background of left space of this figure is much dimmer, creating shade from the light.
