Tongmeng Xuzhi (Essential Knowledge for Children) is a transcribed copy of a book written by Zhu Xi of the Song Dynasty of China for the education of children. The contents include the basic principles of etiquette, such as how to wear one’s clothes, use proper language, walk, arrange one’s belongings, and so forth. The book is presumed to have been introduced to Korea around the end of the Goryeo Period before entering widespread usage in the Joseon Period.
