This is a letter of petition submitted by forty-four local Confucian scholars in Gosan-gun, Jeolla-do to the provincial governor in the 11th lunar month of 1902. It requests that the central government issue a citation in recognition of the exemplary filial piety displayed by a scholar named Yu Chi-myeon. It also contains the governor’s promise that the matter would be handled in due course.
