This ceramic bowl is characterized by a body of fine clay mixed with sand, a flat base, an erected mouth, and a reddish brown surface decorated with three dotted lines. Also called the archaeological site in Nongpo-ri, the shell mound in Yupan is one of two archaeological sites that are highly representative of the late phase of the Neolithic Period in Northeast Asia, the other being the shell mound in Wonsudae.
