This handaxe was excavated from the prehistoric site of Jeongok-ri, Yeoncheon, in Gyeonggi-do. A handaxe with its edge sharpened was produced a few million years after some hominid had produced the first tool in history. The reason that a handaxe is a symbolic artifact from which human evolution can be traced, is that it was produced by a hominid who had begun to stand up and think.
