This document is an annual stipend certificate of a meritorious subject issued to Bae Dae-yu, who rendered distinguished services in suppressing Prince Imhae’s Revolt in 1613 (the 5th year of King Gwanghaegun’s reign). The certificate contains brief personal information about the recipient of the certificate, including his name and title, his meritorious achievements, and the special privileges granted to him in recognition thereof. Prince Imhae’s Revolt was later found to be a fabrication, and the dethronement of King Gwanghaegun (r. 1608-1623) by the Restoration of King Injo in 1623 led to the revocation of all the prizes and honors awarded to those who participated in the fabricated incident and to the execution of its leading figures.
