This is a fascicle of the First Tripitaka Koreana Edition printed with woodblocks, the carving of which was begun in 1011 (the 2nd year of the reign of King Hyeonjong of the Goryeo Dynasty), in a bid to invite the divine intervention of Buddha to expel the Khitan forces that had invaded Goryeo some years earlier, and completed some eighty years later in 1090 (the 7th year of King Seonjong’s reign). It is a part of a large collection of three types of Buddhist texts: sutras (i.e., discourses); vinaya (relating to the rules of monastic discipline); and abhidharma (analytical texts); as well as writings from by eminent monks of earlier times. The texts were printed on Korean traditional mulberry paper and published in the hand scroll format.
