This jar exhibits an attractive red color as its surface was coated with iron oxide and then scrubbed prior to baking. This kind of jar has a round bottom, and is usually excavated from among early Bronze Age remains. However, red burnished jars are found not only at ancient housing sites, but also among the funerary objects placed in ancient tombs, indicating that they were also used for ritual purposes.
