Gwiyal refers to a decorative technique of applying white slip over the surface of a bowl using a brush called a gwiyal, which was made of pig or horsehair. Sometimes, this white slip-brushed design was used without any patterns to decorate the surface of pottery. This bowl shows brush marks applied roughly at a high speed both inside and outside. The contrast between the white slip and gray background creates a strong impression.
