This Buddha statue was discovered at a ruined temple site located beside the Hangang River in Sinhwa-ri of Gangsang-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. Compared with the gilt-bronze Buddhist statues made in the earlier period, this particular item appears much more three-dimensional, as if made to be appreciated as a sculptural work in the round. Its columnar body with few curves seems to show the influence of statues made in the Sui Dynasty of China.
