This tri-legged cauldron was excavated from Tomb No. 1 in Beopcheon-ri, Buron-myeon, Wonju of Gangwon-do. This type of bronze cauldron, formed in the shape of the Big Dipper, is known to have been used to cook and heat foods. Along with the celadon sheep-shaped figurine unearthed with it, this cauldron was handed over to a member of the powerful local elite as Baekje ruled the local provinces. It is a valuable source of information on the close ties that existed between the central government and local regions and the exchanges that occurred between the Baekje and the Southern Dynasties of China during the period when the capital of Baekje was located in Hanseong (present-day Seoul).
