There are three versions of this portrait of Yi Won-ik, a civil official of the mid-Joseon Period. This one displays the painting style of the earliest period. He is wearing a blue ceremonial robe bearing a rank badge embroidered with a crane design. It is thought that the portrait was made in 1573, when Yi Won-ik was sent to the Ming Dynasty of China as a royal envoy, given the chair is covered with tiger fur.
