This ewer features a bamboo-shoot shaped body attached with a handle and spout similarly modeled after bamboo shoots. The vessel is decorated with a lid in the form of a spouting bamboo shoot with contours expressed in semi-relief and leaves elaborately decorated with fine incised lines. As a rapidly growing plant, bamboo signifies offspring and is often adopted as a symbol of congratulation or commemoration in oriental paintings.
