In 1417 (the 17th year of the reign of King Taejong of the Joseon Dynasty), a decree was issued that all buncheong wares and white porcelain supplied to government offices should be inscribed with the names of the government office concerned. This was done to ensure they would not be diverted for personal use. The Chinese characters “Insubu” (仁壽府)” inscribed on this bowl refer to the name of a government office that was in operation between 1400 (the second year of King Jeongjong’s reign) and 1556 (the 11th year of King Myeongjong’s reign). A scroll design is inscribed around the mouth of the bowl and a stamped chrysanthemum design shows on the inner bottom.
