This type of ceramic work is called a mosagi or moban in Korean, literally meaning “a grass and sand vessel.” It is a ritual vessel that was used to store beverages after offering them to an ancestral spirit during a memorial rite. Evenly coated with a bluish-white glaze, the vessel contains sand into which is inserted a bundle of dried grass. It would have been placed beside an incense burner during a rite.
