An incising technique was applied by engraving the desired pattern on the surface of a buncheong piece covered with white slip so that the pattern could be seen against the background color while the rest of the surface remained white. Since the design was carved with lines, it displays a free and pictorial style. Both the front and back are incised with a design of peony flowers in full bloom.
