This painting was produced by Byeon Bak, a painter of the late Joseon period, in 1783 (the 7th year of the reign of King Jeongjo) as a panoramic view of the Japanese residences in Choryang. The gate visible at the top of the painting was erected to combat smuggling, and there was an inn located below the gate. In the middle on the left-hand side of the screen from the inn lies the Yeonhyangdaecheong, a building used to hold receptions for Japanese envoys. A trade office and accommodations for foreign diplomats can be seen on the right-hand side of this painting.
