This is a small gilt-bronze seated Vairocana Buddha, a rarity among sculptured works made in the Unified Silla period. The robe is draped over the left shoulder and only partly covers the right. This statue presents features similar to those of the stone Vairocana Buddha (with an inscription indicating the period, i.e. 766) kept at Seongnamam Hermitage of Naewonsa Temple in Sancheong, South Gyeongsang-do, which is the oldest extant Vairocana Buddha with a known production date.
