This is a rubbed copy of the epitaph of Yi Hwang (1501-1570, pen-name: Twegye), a prominent scholar of the mid-Joseon period. Yi composed the contents of the epitaph himself well before his death in order to prevent anyone from exaggerating his achievements. The epitaph does not relate anything about the official positions he held, apparently out of modesty.
