This is a rubbed copy of the stele for Buddhist Monk Nanghye that was found at the Seongjusa Temple site in Boryeong. The monk was an eighth-generation descendant of King Muyeol of Silla. The inscriptions on the stele provide important materials for study of the social class system, the trends in Buddhism, and the relationship between Buddhism and Confucianism during the Silla period.
