This is a painting of Naksansa Temple, which is said to have been founded by the Buddhist monk Uisang during the Silla Period. The temple overlooks the East Sea and has been the subject of numerous poems and paintings. It is among the Eight Scenic Views of Gwandong in Gangwon-do Province. A number of the paintings of the scenery of Naksansa painted by Jeong Seon (pen-name: Gyeomjae) portray a sunrise like this.
