This is a Buddhist painting of the fourth of the ten kings of hell. On the 28th day after a person’s death, the soul of the deceased comes before the fourth king, who metes out the five punishments according to the deceased’s misdeeds in life. It is said that the fourth king’s hell is filled with terrible knives. This painting was originally kept at Taegosa Temple on Mt. Bukhansan.
