Shin Jam (1491-1554), a literati artist of the early Joseon period, was particularly adept at ink wash paintings of bamboo, landscapes, human figures, and grapes. In this particular painting, he depicts a Confucian scholar on a mountain looking for plum blossoms. The snowy peaks behind the traveler and his page form a wonderful panoramic landscape on this long horizontal painting.
