Beyond Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay is a special exhibition examining the dramatic change in European art and life during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Starting around 1886, the artists of the Impressionist movement, who had used bright colors to capture light and urban life, began showing signs of change. Moving beyond the representation of nature and the interest in light, representative Post-Impressionists such as Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, and Paul Gauguin shifted their artistic vision to focus on primitive life, the fundamental structure of nature, and the psychological realm of dreams. Later works from artists such as Claude Monet and Henri Rousseau convey the domineering personalities and acute minds of these legendary artists. The exhibition features over 170 works of various media—including photography, sculpture, drawing, and crafts—all of which were specially selected from the renowned collection of the Musée d’Orsay. Introducing diverse aspects of life in Paris, the global capital of the Modern Age, this exhibition evokes the essence and indeed the very breath and life of these extraordinary artists, who reshaped the art world at the turn of the twentieth century.
