The National Museum of Korea organized the special exhibition, “Ming and Qing Painting from National Museum of Korea.”

The NMK set up China Room in the Asia Gallery, newly established when the museum moved to Yongsan. The museum has tried to collect artworks to illustrate various trends of Chinese art since its relocation, and the collection has grown in size and quality.

The museum’s collection of Chinese artworks from the Ming and Qing dynasties may not be comparable to the vast collection of the world-renowned museums, but it surely provides the fundamentals of the key painters and schools of art in the art history of the Ming and Qing dynasties. This exhibition displays the trend and the spirit of the Ming and Qing paintings.

The exhibition particularly focuses on communicating with visitors; in order to create an interactive and interesting exhibition environment, information technology and media art using Ming and Qing paintings are presented.

We hope that this special exhibition will give rise to active researches and discussions on the displayed artworks. The NMK will continue to introduce Chinese artworks so to expand the opportunity to enjoy and to encourage researches on Chinese calligraphy and painting works.
